Most people are addicted to plastic bags.
We used plastic bags everyday because it is very convenient and most
of us have developed a dependency on using plastic bags. We tend to use plastic bags to carry our things regardless of how harmful they are to our environment. There will eventually be consequences for our actions, and the ultimate victim will be the Earth that we are all living in. It is understandable why plastic bags are so popular in our daily lives; it is easy to carry around, cheap to produce, and very durable. Grocery stores usually give them away free of charge, and it is convenient for the consumers to carry their groceries after purchase. Some people use plastic bags to separate their dirty clothes when they travel around. Some use plastic bags to clean up their dog's waste. As you can see, plastic bags can be used in all kinds of ways and serve for multiple functions. However, there is always a darker side despite all the positive aspects of using plastic bags. The irresponsible disposal of plastic bags litter our communities, causing pollution to our physical environment. Please bear in mind that plastic bags are not biodegradable, they photo-degrade. This means that it breaks down into tiny toxic bits, contaminating the soil and rivers. It also effects the food chain of humans when animals accidentally consume those toxic substances into their system, especially marine animals. Plastic requires a long period of time to completely degrade, and we do not have enough space to expand our landfills.
The government has noticed this hidden crisis, as well as scientists. Although they are working for a solution to this, we as citizens should not wait to take actions of our own. We should change our mindset and be conscious that throwing away a plastic bag will cause serious damage on the environment, and the decision that we make today can directly affect our next generation. We can take immediate action to help our environment and convince the government to place a ban on plastic bags and promote the use of reusable bags,
such as cloth bags. That way we'll be able to put one more step into making our environment into a thing just as beautiful as it had been in the past. We are all responsible for defending the environment, and we should all step up and take action to keep the Earth clean and beautiful.
